The Tashahhud in Prayer || How Kids Can Learn It Easily

Tashahhud is a vital part of every Muslim’s prayer. It is the sitting portion where we testify our faith, send peace upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and show our love for Allah.
For children learning Salah, the Tashahhud is one of the first steps toward understanding the meaning behind the prayer.

Importance of Tashahhud in Salah

The Tashahhud is not just a recitation — it’s a declaration of faith. It must be recited in every prayer after the second rak‘ah.
In longer prayers, it’s also said in the final sitting, completed with Salat Ibrahimiyya (sending peace upon the Prophet).
Learning the Tashahhud helps children:

  • Feel connected to Allah and the Prophet ﷺ
Understand the spiritual meaning of their Salah
    Build confidence in their worship

How Is Tashahhud Said in Salah? (For Kids)

Here’s a simple way to explain it:

  • In 2-rak‘ah prayers (like Fajr):
You say the full Tashahhud at the end.
  • In 3 or 4-rak‘ah prayers (like Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha):
After the 2nd rak‘ah, you say the short Tashahhud.
After the last rak‘ah, you say the full Tashahhud with Salat Ibrahimiyya.

Tell kids:
“After the second unit, we sit and talk to Allah. At the end of the prayer, we sit again, send peace to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and end with a beautiful dua.”

Tashahhud in English & Transliteration

All the greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

Attahiyyaatu lillaahi wassalawaatu wattayyibatu. Assalaamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyi warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh. Assalaamu ‘alyna wa ‘ala ‘ibaadillaahis saaliheen. Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illallaah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluh.

O Allah, send Your peace and blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent peace and blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, you are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
